Problem Statement
- In Zimbabwe
More than 30% of the adult population is HIV positive
- More than 35%
of pregnant women are HIV positive
- About 12% of all children are
HIV positive mostly due to maternal infections, some due to sexual
abuse by HIV positive men and women
- Over 50% of new infections now
take place in youths between 15 and 24
- Around 2500 people die every
week due to AIDS related illnesses.
- The figure of orphans mainly due
to HIV / AIDS will soon reach 1 million
- Stigmatization and discrimination,
increasing poverty and rising sexual abuse of women and children
are worsening the already desperate situation
Objectives
- To actively participate in the fight against HIV/Aids by providing
love, care and support to the infected and affectedwhile embarking
on efforts aimed at the reducing ifection, discrimation and stigma.
- To provide
psychological support to the infected and affected in a loving and
caring spirit.
- To reduce infection by pursuing and promoting HIV/AIDS
education within the group and in the community at large.
- To provide
people living with HIV/AIDS with information on the art of positive
living.
- To promote self-reliance within the group.
To represent the interests of people living with HIV/AIDS and their
dependants
- To promote cooperation and collaboration in HIV/AIDS related
activities and programmes.
